Our Practice

We are a full-service animal hospital providing comprehensive pet healthcare services in Tacoma, WA. Our veterinarians offer a wide variety of medical, surgical, and dental services. Our hospital has advanced equipment and technologies, including comprehensive in-house testing for accurate diagnosis, digital x-ray, surgical suites, dental suites, and a pharmacy. We are committed to providing quality care at every stage of your pet's life. From routine preventive care to early detection and treatment of a wide range of conditions and diseases, we have the expertise to provide the highest standard of care for your pet. We also serve Pierce County, King County, Vashon Island, Shelton, Lakewood, Midland, Waller, University Place, Fircrest, Gig Harbor, and Bremerton.

  • Dr. Jackie Shiue

    Doctor

    Dr. Jackie originally came from Taiwan and moved to Kentucky with her family. She received a DVM degree from National Pingtung University of Science and Technology in Taiwan and went on to receive additional veterinary training at Ontario Veterinary College in Canada. She worked in a small animal clinic and volunteered at the zoo in Indiana before moving to the Pacific Northwest. Her special interests are preventative medicine, soft tissue surgery, and nutrition. She believes prevention is the best medicine to help our pets stay healthy and live a long life. Dr. Jackie has two cats, Popo and Birdie, and a bearded dragon, Darwin, and she would like to have a dog to join the family in the near future. She enjoys traveling, watching movies, visiting national parks, and spending time with family.

  • Dr. Shayla Johnson

    Doctor

    Dr. Shayla Johnson, originally from the south, lived in Georgia and Arkansas before attending veterinary school at Tuskegee University in Alabama. She completed a year-long internship in Long Island, NY, and worked a year at a high-volume practice in Las Vegas before relocating to Washington to practice primary veterinary care in 2018. She has a special interest in rehabilitation services and exercises, which include post-operative physical therapy, neurological disease treatment, and activities meant to help with weight loss and pain management in pets. 

    Dr. Johnson’s household is quite active and full with a Labrador Retriever named Fossil, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Roman, and three cats; a Tabby named Spartacus, a ragdoll named Bosco, and a feral rescue named Logan. In her spare time, she enjoys all that Washington has to offer with her partner. Together they enjoy hiking, cooking, enjoying the sun when it’s out, and rooting for the best basketball team, the Seattle Storm.

  • Marlena

    Hospital Manager

    Marlena has lived in the Pacific Northwest the majority of her life and grew up surrounded by animals of all shapes and sizes. It was only natural for her to join the veterinary field in 2017. Starting out as a client service coordinator, she worked her way up to the leader of a large service coordinator team. Now as the Hospital Manager at Soundview, she loves supporting the Soundview crew from front to back, ensuring top-notch patient care, and establishing relationships with clients and their pets. Her favorite part of veterinary medicine is that no two days are the same. She cannot imagine a career she would possibly enjoy more. When not in the hospital, Marlena is travelling to dog shows all over the west coast with her dogs Niko, Dazzle, and Brazen.

  • Jen

    Lead LVT + Assistant Manager

    Jen started in veterinary medicine as a receptionist in General Practice and Emergency. She decided to continue her education in the field on the technical side. She is a Licensed Veterinary Technician and our Assistant Manager. She ensures the daily success of our treatment department. Jen is a Tacoma native with a love for Australian Shepherds and all things wiggle butt! In her spare time, she likes to relax with her family or take her dog on their next adventure.

  • Isabela

    Licensed Vet Technician

    Isabela is an LVT that has been working in the veterinary field for the past 10 years. She discovered her passion for animal medicine while volunteering at the humane society. She currently has a dog and two cats but is known to foster sick pets. In her free time, she likes to hike, travel, and spend time with her family and friends

  • Lindsey

    Licensed Vet Technician

    Lindsey has been a member of the Soundview team for years. As an experienced LVT, she is dedicated to excellent patient care and mentoring our newer staff. We consider her to be our resident nail trimming expert! She owns the world’s sweetest cat, a gray tabby named Walker. Lindsey is currently in school to become a registered nurse for human medicine. We are grateful she remains a part of our team while in school.

  • Kiya

    Licensed Vet Technician

    Kiya is from Tacoma, WA. She has worked many positions at Soundview and has graduated from the Pierce College Veterinary Technician Program. She is a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Her favorite thing about working at Soundview is the hands-on interaction with the pets. Kiya has a cat named George and a Dachshund named Toby. In her spare time, she likes to hike, fish, and explore tide-pools.

  • Amelia

    Assistant

    Amelia, a native Tacoman and WWU graduate, started working with animals in a volunteer role at a local rabbit shelter where she now serves on the board. After a brief stint in the world of humans, she threw herself into the veterinary realm, starting as a client services representative before moving to a veterinary assistant role here at Soundview. She lives alongside two rabbits and a cat that she found living in a bush. She enjoys riding her bike, true crime, NPR, and vegan baked goods.

  • Camisha

    Veterinary Assistant

    I am originally from the scenic Columbia River Gorge area and went to college at WSU to earn my Bachelor’s in Animal Science. I spent a little over a year as a part time zookeeper at Point Defiance Zoo before making a return to the veterinary field. I enjoy gaming, reading, and all kinds of adventures in nature with my beautiful big-eared rescue mutt in my spare time.

  • Alisa

    Veterinary Assistant

    Alisa grew up in Washington and has had a passion for animals her whole life. She is currently in college getting her Bachelor’s in Veterinary Technology, hoping to specialize in Equine science. Alisa loves marine life, large exotic mammals, and reptiles. She has one Cat and dreams of owning a horse, or two. When she’s not at work she loves being with her son, baking and painting. Alisa loves learning new techniques and strategies to promote a more fear-free practice and being around her co-workers. Three words her family/friends would describe her as are, faithful, caring, and goofy.

  • Chloe

    Veterinary Assistant

    Chloe first came to Soundview for her veterinary assistant externship and decided to stay and join the team full time. Now she is in school to become a technician. She enjoys everything about veterinary medicine, especially working with bunnies and her colleagues. She has a full house of pets: 2 rabbits, 2 geckos, and 1 dog. When not at work or school, Chloe spends her time running, hiking, thrift shopping, and traveling.

  • Chelscia

    Veterinary Assistant

    Chelscia was born and raised in the Caribbean. She is currently in school with aspirations to become a Licensed Vet Tech and then on to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Her favorite parts of her job are interacting with animals and learning something new every day. She owns a Miniature Australian Shepherd. When not helping animals, Chelscia enjoys shopping trips and spending time with family.

  • Erica

    Veterinary Assistant + CSR

    Erica is from Tacoma and grew up surrounded by lots of pets. She helps Soundview from front to back as both a Veterinary Assistant and a Client Service Representative. She is planning to apply to vet tech school soon and expand her knowledge in this field. Erica is the fur mom of her yellow lab Hotch and her flock of chickens. In her free time, she loves reading, hiking, camping, and anything that gets her out in nature.

  • Taylor

    Client Care Representative

    Taylor is Pet First AID & CPR Certified and an IBPSA Canine Specialist. Taylor is currently enrolled at Tacoma Community College pursuing a degree in biology. She has fostered cats and kittens for 2 years at Humane Society of Tacoma and has spent 10 years volunteering in the shelter world. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with her Old English Sheepdog and exploring nature & wildlife. She previously came from Des Moines, Iowa where she worked in a training program to help under-socialized dogs and cats gain confidence.

  • Serenity

    Client Service Representative

    Serenity comes to Soundview with a diverse background in the animal field. She has lots of experience in dog training, including service dogs. Serenity graduated from the UW’s animal behavior program in 2022 and has a strong passion for behavior. She has shared with Soundview great ideas for reducing stress and providing positive experiences for our patients. When not at Soundview, Serenity can frequently be seen walking her beautiful Dobermans around local parks.

  • Olivia

    Client Service Representative

    Olivia is a Tacoma native who has wanted to work in veterinary medicine since she was little. In fact, she used to be a client of Soundview, and now she is a part of the team! She owns two kitties: Mew and Kiwi. Olivia particularly enjoys when puppies and kittens come in for wellness visits. Outside of work, she has many hobbies including painting, drawing, listening to music, thrift shopping, and hanging out with her nieces.
