Our Practice

We are a full-service animal hospital providing comprehensive pet healthcare services in Tacoma, WA. Our veterinarians offer a wide variety of medical, surgical and dental services. Our hospital has advanced equipment and technologies, including comprehensive in-house testing for accurate diagnosis, digital x-ray, surgical suite, dental suite, and a pharmacy. We are committed to providing quality care at every stage of your pet's life. From routine preventive care to early detection and treatment of a wide range of conditions and diseases, we have the expertise to provide the highest standard of care for your pet. We also serve Pierce county, King county, Vashon Island, Shelton and Bremerton.

  • Stacy Choczynski Johnson, DVM

    Doctor + Medical Director

    Dr. Stacy Choczynski Johnson transferred from our sister clinic, South Bay Veterinary Hospital. She is now Soundview Veterinary Hospital’s managing veterinarian with over 12 years of clinical veterinary experience and she can’t wait to meet your fur baby!

    Dr. Johnson completed a dual undergraduate degree in biology and psychology at Canisius College in New York.  She gained exotic animal experience while studying animal behavior and zoo biology.  She has worked with species ranging from beluga whales to chinook salmon.  After graduating from the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, she relocated to Washington State.

    Dr. Johnson loves working with companion animals and has a passion for preventative medicine, dermatology and compassionate veterinary care.  She is USDA accredited for international health certificates, Fear Free certified and is a graduate of the Power of 10 Veterinary Leadership Program.  She serves on the Pierce College Veterinary Technician Program Advisory Board and supports STEM educational programs for children and empowerment programs for girls.  She has been a member of the non-profit Junior League of Olympia since 2009 and has served on the board of directors for 4 years.

    Dr. Johnson loves travel, unique cuisine and of course, local coffee.  She is an amateur punster and mom to an 8-year old human and 1-year old Havanese dog.

  • Taylor Dowell, DVM

    Doctor

    Dr. Taylor Dowell is a general practitioner with interests in surgery and emergency medicine. She grew up in the Seattle area and knew from an early age that her affection for animals would evolve into a career. Her clients would describe her as upbeat and someone connects with every type of person.

    Dr. Dowell completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Montana in wildlife biology. She attended veterinary school at Washington State University. She has worked in veterinary hospitals since 2011. Her experience also includes working at a wildlife sanctuary, a rehabilitation center in Malawi, Africa and a hospital & animal rescue in Thailand.

    In her downtime, Dr. Dowell relaxes with her dog, Kiko and 2 cats, Bagheera and Asuna. She enjoys the nature and dining of the Pacific Northwest, and could admittedly eat pasta 7 days a week.

  • Dr. Elizabeth “Libby” Sullivan, DVM

    Doctor

    Dr. Elizabeth “Libby” Sullivan is our exotics, canine and feline veterinarian. She is originally from Australia and moved to the United States in 2016. She is an experienced doctor who also worked in upstate New York.

    Dr. Sullivan graduated from the University of Sydney with her veterinary degree in 2016 and has a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from the University of Technology Sydney. Her interests primarily lie with exotic and wildlife medicine, soft tissue surgery and endocrinology. She has experience with birds (cockatoos & macaws), reptiles, amphibians, and mammals (rabbits, guinea pigs, & coati)! Dr. Sullivan has completed additional training and coursework in wildlife rescue, exotic anesthesia and macropod, possum, & avian medicine. She has enjoyed volunteering with the Sydney Taronga Zoo Wildlife Hospital and Wildlife Friends for Thailand.

    In her free time, Dr. Sullivan enjoys spending time with her three cats, Thor, Tigger and Vegemite. She has two mixed breed dogs, Prim and Saint. She also a baker of many wonderful confections!

  • Brandon

    Practice Manager

    Brandon is Soundview’s practice manager and he has been in the Veterinary industry for 10 years. He earned his certified veterinary practice manager certification in January of 2019. He originally grew up in Omaha Nebraska and moved out to beautiful Washington with his wife so she could attend law school.  He greatly enjoys hiking and camping with his wife, daughter, and his Doberman/Pitbull. He also loves fishing, rock climbing, and bowling whenever time allows.

  • Cassie

    Receptionist

    Cassie is our go-to client service team member and resident cat lover.  She was born and raised in Upstate NY. She received a bachelor’s degree in English from Utica College in 2017. Cassie moved to Tacoma where she lives with her two cats Bella and Purr Elton John. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering, traveling, and cooking. Cassie loves seeing all the kitties at Soundview and meeting clients, like you!

  • Dawn

    Licensed Vet Technician

    Dawn has been a technician since 1994. She was born and raised in Hawaii and has traveled around the country. Dawn now calls Washington her home. She enjoys training and competing with her dogs in various events and outdoor activities.

  • Holly

    Licensed Vet Technician

    Holly is a Licensed Veterinary Technician who entered the veterinary industry six years ago after five years working as a wind energy consultant. Her favorite part of working in veterinary medicine is the ability to work with her hands, using her creativity to solve problems and the sheer amount of laughter that comes with working alongside animals. In addition to veterinary medicine, Holly loves to travel the world. She has explored remote and hard to reach destinations, including parts of Africa, Cuba, Easter Island, and Antarctica (where she spent 18 months working at three different research stations). Holly is remodeling her new home in Tacoma and loves trading in her scrubs for coveralls on the weekends. She hopes to soon fill her home with many furry companions and would love to own a bunny, cat, and dog (who are all best friends).

    Technician

    Katie has worked in veterinary medicine since 2016 as a certified veterinary assistant. In April of 2020, she completed her Veterinary Technician Program at PIMA Medical Institute. She has always had a love for animals and is ready to work on just about any critter! Her favorite part about veterinary medicine is being hands-on. She is always ready for the next case. She has 2 dogs, a Siberian husky named Smokey and a black Labrador named Bandit. In her free time, she likes to take Bandit hiking and swimming. She loves the outdoors and being near the mountains.

  • Meaghanne

    Assistant

    Meaghanne has a BS in Biology from the University of Puget Sound and has discovered her love of the veterinary field. She is studying for her Licenced Veterinary Technology credentialing and will be graduating in 2022. Meaghanne also works at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in the Education Department. She owns two cane corso dogs named Solo and Rage and a three-legged kitty named Swagga. Meaghanne has five chickens: three sex-links, one Rhode Island red, and one black & white laced winged Wyanadotte. She has a passion for animal behavior, enrichment opportunities, and training. Food puzzles and enrichment are some of her favorite things to talk about.

    Assistant

    Niki was born and raised in Tacoma, Wa. She has been in the veterinary field since 2011. She enjoys spending time with her son, family, and friends. She also likes cooking, camping, gardening, and painting. She has two dogs, Kiki and Cisco, as well as a nephew-dog named Devin.

  • Tawny

    Assistant

    Tawny is a life-long animal lover who moved to Tacoma after attending the University of Oregon. She has owned a variety of animals ranging from dogs and cats to guinea pigs and ducks. She currently has two silly rescue cats, Randy and Wumpus.

  • Kirstin

    Receptionist

    Kirstin is one of Soundview’s part-time friendly and charismatic receptionists.  She is a long-time Tacoma resident and has served on the board of directors for Pierce County Animal Welfare.  Kirstin loves working with animals, and has a special place in her heart for pugs!  Her favorite part of working at Soundview Veterinary Hospital is being able to get to know both the clients and their pets.  Kirstin is married to her husband of 17 years and has a son in college.  She enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, cooking, and playing with her pug, Hazel.

  • Amanda

    Amanda hails from Singapore, having moved to the US to tie the knot! She has had careers in both the hotel and gaming industries, before finding her passion for veterinary medicine in 2016.  At a vet clinic in her home country, she finally found the opportunity to combine two of her biggest joys in life; working with animals and people.  Soundview is thrilled to have tech-savvy Amanda on our team!  She is a proud “cat lady”, and is caretaker to young Cayde. In the future, she hopes to round out her family with a Golden Retriever. When given the chance, Amanda can be found gaming, surrounded by music, or reading a fantasy title.

  • Kiya

    Assistant

    Kiya is from Tacoma, WA, and is currently attending the Pierce College Veterinary Technician Program. Her favorite thing about working at Soundview is the hands-on interaction with the pets. Kiya has 4 pets: 1 cat named George, 1  dachshund named Toby and 2 ball pythons. In her spare time, she likes to hike, fish, and explore tide-pools.

    Assistant

    Sally graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz with a bachelor’s degree and a major in marine biology. Sally is originally from North Carolina and we are lucky to have her at Soundview Veterinary Hospital! Sally’s favorite animals are whales and she enjoys photographing them when they are here in Tacoma’s Puget Sound. Sally’s favorite hobbies are all things water-related especially paddle boarding and swimming. Sally has a dog and an adopted cat.
